If you are looking for Geelong things to do at night this list includes plenty of ideas, regardless of if your idea of a fun thing to do at night is relaxing in your seat or getting active.

Try your hand at an Escape/Mystery room

The Mystery Rooms Geelong are located in Grovedale and are open at night on a Friday and Saturday – a great way to get out at night in winter.

In case you’ve been living under a rock, escape/mystery rooms have become popular in recent years (I still haven’t been to one myself). They are essentially an experience where you are placed into a space and have to solve the puzzles and riddles to ‘escape’.

Play a game of Mini Golf

The mini golf course at the Range at Curlewis (on Portarlington Rd between Geelong and Drysdale) is open to 10pm at night daily, every day of the year except Christmas!

A fun little mini golf course with native plants, rocks, water and tunnels, you can rug up and navigate this mini golf course at night-time even in winter.

Join a boozy Art Class

In Geelong both Pinot & Picasso and Brush & Bubbles offer nighttime art classes with booze some nights of the week.

Indoor golf

XGolf in South Geelong offers indoor golf simulators as well as a licenced sports bar and games room. Make sure you book in a time before you visit.

Go for bowling & beer

When was the last time you went bowling? Oz Tenpin Bowling in Belmont Geelong is open late night and has a fully licenced cafe so you can ‘drink and bowl’!

Alternatively, Laser Quest in central Geelong has short lane bowling

Also coming soon (hopefully 2023) is a new ‘General Public’ venue in Corio Geelong which will house tenpin bowling, pool tables and an arcade centre all in the one venue.

See a live theatre production

There are several venues around Geelong that have live shows at night on a regular basis.

  • Geelong Arts Centre has an incredible variety of local and international shows on throughout the year. From musicals to ballet & dance to bands to variety-type shows there are heaps of choices at Geelong’s biggest arts precinct.
  • Geelong Repertory Theatre is a local volunteer run company that performs in the Woodbin Theatre
  • For special interest shows check out what’s on at the historic Palais Geelong.

There are also periodic live shows run at other venues throughout Geelong like Shenton, Costa Hall, Theatre of the Winged Unicorn and private school venues for hire.

Laser Tag the night away

Love him or hate him, embrace your inner HIMYM Barney and visit LaserQuest for some nighttime laser tag in central Geelong. Sessions are available to 9.30pm most nights of the week.

Head to the Laser Quest arcade (timezone) which is open to 10pm daily and either load your card with credit or book in an unlimited time pack.

With both seated interactive games or more active options like basketball you can take your pick on how much effort your evening requires.

Go to the Fancy Movies

Most of us a familiar with the fun experience that is Gold Class, which comes with fully reclining seats and table service of pre-orderded food and drinks.

But for quite a few years now Readings Waurn Ponds has also offered an affordable alternative priced between a normal cinema and gold class and Village has also introduced its own middle-of-the-road alternative.

Both of these are licenced cinemas so you can buy basic drinks like beer and wine to take into the cinema with you for night sessions.

Splash-out options include:

Readings: Premium or Titan Luxe

Village: Gold Class or VPremium

The Rock Adventure Centre is open at night time on weeknights (Monday to Friday).

You don’t need to have climbed before or own your own equipment, the centre will run you through safety inductions and you can hire climbing gear.

Enjoy a gin, beer, cocktail or wine tasting session

Anther Distillery in North Geelong offers both Gin & Cocktail tasting bookings early in the night. Gin tasting is most days while cocktails run only on Saturdays. The latest session you can book is 6pm which is a popular time spot so you may need to book in advance to avoid missing out on this nighttime session.

Alternatively, visit the Chamber of Gin in central Geelong which has brought together 5 local distilleries gins on their one menu.

For wine tasting, Archive Wine Bar has the option of a 75ml pour and a 165+ long wine list to try so you can essentially build your own by the small glass wine tasting session.

Or visit the Nicols Paddock winery which is basically in town, just on the edge of Geelong near the Waurn Ponds shopping centre. Wine is by the glass and you can buy a ‘feast’ option where you share and try different kinds of foods (both carnivores and vegans are catered for).

For beer tasting, Blackmans Brewery in Grovedale does beer tasting paddles, as does Little Creatures who has a ‘4 pony’ tasting paddle at their Canteen and White Rabbit Barrel Hall.

Many Geelong venues like 18th Amendment, distilleries and wine bars also offer one-off event sessions so it’s worth keeping an eye on their socials if you have a special interest.

If you’ve always wanted to get your dirty dancing or strictly ballroom on, a casual night time class or social session is your perfect chance to try it out.

On occasion the Geelong Gallery has evening after-hours exhibits. These are generally very reasonably priced, for example, the current one is $12.50 for an adult.
