Where is geelong?

Geelong, the 2nd largest city in Victoria Australia, is located an hour’s drive from Melbourne on the south coast of Victoria. Geelong has a population of about 270,000 across the whole shire which includes surrounding rural areas.

How to get to geelong from Tullamarine airport

To get to Geelong from Tullamarine Airport by driving you can follow the signs to Geelong, This will take you onto the M80 ‘The Western Ring Road’ and then onto the M1 which runs between Melbourne and Geelong. You can follow the signs all the way to the CBD of Geelong. With no traffic it is around 1 hour but can take substantially longer in peak hours and at busy times like long weekends.

Geelong also has its own airport located at Avalon (airport code is AVV) with a limited number of flights. However, to get to Geelong from most interstate destinations you need to fly via Melbourne Airport.

You can also catch the Gull Bus, a local Geelong service that runs between Melbourne Airport and drop off points in Geelong.

How to get to Geelong from Melbourne CBD

To get from the Melbourne to Geelong without traffic it is about a 1 hour drive along the M1. In peak hour and busy times this can take substantially longer.

You can also catch a Vline Train from Melbourne to Geelong from Southern Cross Station. The Geelong Station is about 1km walk from the main westfield shopping centre and 1.1km from the Waterfront restaurants. You can also catch an uber, taxi or local bus if you would prefer not to walk.
